Instructions
Saute Vegetables: Heat a large skillet over medium heat then add your oil. Once the oil is heated, saute the diced white onion for three minutes. Then, add the diced red bell pepper and green bell pepper. Continue to saute for three more minutes or until the vegetables are cooked thoroughly. Set aside in a medium bowl.
Toast the Bread Roll: Slice the hoagie roll in half. Spread mayonnaise. Place on the skillet over medium heat (mayonnaise side down). Toast for roughly 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Set aside.
Cook Sliced Meat: In the same skillet, add your sliced meat. Saute until meat is cooked thoroughly. Then, add in the vegetables. Add the garlic powder, ground pepper, and salt. Stir and taste. Feel free to add an extra pinch of salt or ground pepper.
Add Cheese: With your spatula, group the meat and vegetables in the center of the pan. Then, add the slices of cheese in the middle. Cover with a lid and let the cheese melt for one minute. Take the pan lid off.
Build Your Sub: Put all of the meat, vegetables, and cheese into your toasted hoagie roll. Enjoy!
Bread to Use: I used my Jersey Mike's Bread Copycat Recipe. However, if you don't feel like baking, a hoagie roll from your local grocery store's bakery will do.
Sliced Meat: I bought thinly sliced meat at Costco and then sliced it into smaller strips on a cutting board. You can find sliced meat at the grocery store that was made specifically for Philly cheesesteak sandwiches.
Types of Cheese to Use: Traditionally, Philly cheesesteak sandwiches are made with provolone cheese. However, Jersey Mike's uses white American cheese, so that's what I used in this recipe. I highly recommend using white American cheese since it stays melted for longer than provolone. But if you can't find it, use provolone.
How to Store: Wrap the sub in aluminum foil.
How to Reheat: When you are ready to eat the cheese steaks, heat it in the oven at 350℉ (176℃) for 10 minutes. You can also microwave the sub. To microwave, take the sandwich out of the foil and place it on a plate. Microwave for 30-second increments until heated.
