Air Fryer Beignets FAQ
Beignets are a French donut that is made up of yeast, sweetened dough, and powdered sugar. They are traditionally deep-fried in oil.
The secret is to not overwork the dough. Overworking the dough will develop the gluten in the flour, causing the beignet to become tough.
Beignets and fried dough are virtually identical to one another. However, there might be some change in ingredients.
Can I Deep Fry These Stuffed Beignets?
You absolutely can!

To deep fry, add two inches of oil to a heavy bottom pot or dutch oven. Heat the oil to 350°F. Fry the beignets in the hot oil for one minute each side. Place on paper towels.
Key Ingredients For Nutella Stuffed Air Fryer Beignets
- All Purpose Flour or Bread Flour: Either will work for this recipe. However, I’ve yet to try this with whole wheat flour
- Nutella: Delicious hazelnut chocolate spread!
- Milk: Go for whole milk for this recipe.
- Water: Make sure the water is warm!
- Sugar: For sweetness
- Yeast: The leavening agent in this recipe. (Note: Refer to my Baking With Yeast Guide if you are brand new to working with yeast doughs.)
- Butter: Melted. Make sure it’s between 110-115 degrees so that it doesn’t kill the yeast.
- Confectioner’s Sugar: Used for dusting

In a large bowl, combine the milk, warm water, sugar and yeast. Whisk and let sit at room temperature for five minutes. The mixture should turn foamy.
Once the yeast mixture is foamy, add the melted butter, egg, all purpose flour, and salt. Mix with a wooden spatula until a shaggy dough is formed.
Then, knead by hand for five minutes until the dough is smooth. You can also knead in the bowl of a stand mixer with the dough hook at medium-low speed.
Place the dough in a greased container and cover. Let rise for one hour or until doubled in size.
Once the dough has doubled, place it on a lightly floured surface.
Flour the top of the dough and with a rolling pin, roll the dough into a 13×18-inch rectangle. The dough should be ¼ inch thick.
With a pizza cutter, cut the dough into 1.5 inch squares that are approximately 1.5 inches wide.
Place the squares onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper roughly 1 inch apart. Cover with plastic wrap and let the dough proof for 45 minutes.
Preheat the air fryer to 375°F. Brush each square lightly with milk and air fry for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
Make a small hole in the beignets with a chopstick or knife. Fill a piping bag with Nutella. Then, pipe each beignet with Nutella.
Brush the beignets with melted butter and then sprinkle with powdered sugar.
Tips For Making Amazing Nutella Beignets
Air fry In Batches
Adding too many beignets in the air fryer basket will drop the temperature in the air fryer, and your beignets will be flat. They will not puff up.
For best results, do not overcrowd the basket. Work in batches.
Don’t Roll Out The Dough Too Thin.
If the dough is too thin, then your beignet will also be thin. Make sure not to roll out the dough thinner than 1/4 inches.
Set The Correct Temperature In Your Air Fryer
If the air fryer is not at the correct temperature, then these beignets will not puff up! The blast of hot air is what makes your beignets puffy.
How To Store Beignets
Make sure to read this detailed guide on how to store, freeze, and reheat Beignets.
You can store the beignets at room temperature for up to three days.
When you are ready to eat them, simply reheat the French donuts in the microwave, oven, or air fryer.
